Prof. Satyanegara Sees the Importance of Focusing on Self-reflection, Memory Keeping through Chinese Language Biography

Jakarta, pantausidang – What inspired highly respected senior neurosurgeon in Indonesia, Prof. Satyanegara to edit his newest book, entitled Senyum Samurai (Samurai Smiley)?, that he is not only passionate about writing, reading, but also self-reflection, memory keeping, personal growth. Especially when he returned to Indonesia (from Japan) 53 years ago, he wished to manage personal achievements of life experiences, capturing significant events, the late of his parents’ advice which guided him to pursue success and happiness.
“When I returned to Indonesia in 1972, I did not have any archive of miscellaneous experiences. I just compile my pictures into more than five hundred photo albums. I just look it (the album) out one by one, and picked those which are worth remembering, and what I had done,” said Prof. Satyanegara.
He needed to select the pictures which are worth keeping and remembering as important milestones in his life especially during the period between the year of 1976 – 2013.
During that time, his parents might consider him as a courageous person. They kept thinking how he behaved bravery by facing difficult or challenging situations, by leaving for Japan in 1972 to study in Tokyo university’s medical school and achieving a doctorate degree, Professor in Japan.
“That happens to be my thought, and encouraged me to edit my second biography entitled Samurai Smiley,” he said.
He chose Samurai as a symbol, after he learned to know what the real meaning was. It really has two meanings. Firstly, it symbolized the person who keeps struggling and never gives up. Life itself, especially when he returned to Indonesia, since he was still 33 years old, there were so many things that occurred to his life.
Besides, he can see many things within the soul of life emerging in similarity with the struggle of Samurai.
“When a Samurai appears with the blade, he never shows his bursting laughter, but his small smile and cool,” said Professor Satyanegara.
He added that the books prepared in series, starting from the first till ninth (series) are written in Indonesian language.
He always wishes that his friends, patients would know him not only by those Indonesian language books, but in mandarin.
Since some of them really understand Chinese language, and therefore Samurai Smiley has been prepared and distributed through many kiosks, stores, and hospitals. He really wishes to see them (patients, friends, colleagues) know what he have done, not only as a neurosurgeon expert working for a state-owned hospital at that time, taking care of the family, which was a big struggle.
“Therefore I have edited the book in Chinese language, using the Chinese name Huang Jin-cheng. I really wish that they know Satyanegara and Huang Jin-cheng are similar with each other,” said Prof. Satyanegara. *** (Liu)
